Anchored by the state’s flagship unversity, the University of Kentucky, the Bluegrass boasts 10 colleges and universities within 40 miles of Lexington, including Eastern Kentucky University, Bluegrass Community & Technical College, Kentucky State University, Georgetown College, Asbury University, Berea College, Midway University, Centre College, and Transylvania. In total, nearly 70,000 students are enrolled at these educational institutions, and over 17,000 graduate every year.

Lexington’s public and private K-12 schools help prepare students to excel in college and the workforce. The city’s elementary and secondary schools operate several magnet programs to teach students advanced math, technology, applied skills, and foreign languages. In addition, there are several multi-school gifted and talented programs, such as the Spanish Immersion Program, the Elementary and Middle School Accelerated Programs, and the School for Creative and Performing Arts (SCAPA).

The Lexington Public Library is also a valuable resource for Lexingtonians with over 526,472 books, including downloadable materials. Each year, the library circulates over 3 million books and serves almost 2 million people through in-person visits.
