Minority Business Procurement

Commerce Lexington Inc. and the Urban League of Lexington-Fayette County partnered to assist Thomas & King in recruiting minority-owned businesses to complete three restaurants in Lexington, beginning with the Applebee’s concept store on Leestown Road. The average minority participation on the three projects was 39%. Since those early days , additional procurement opportunities have come from our clients and members from the Kentucky State Government, Fayette County Public Schools, Kentucky Community & Technical Colleges, Bluegrass Airport, and non-profits like Community Ventures with their Third Street & Midland Project.

Commerce Lexington Inc. also works directly with companies like Messer Construction on outreach to minority-owned businesses to announce participation opportunities on projects like the University of Kentucky’s Gatton Student Center and the Berea College Natural & Health Science project. Commerce Lexington Inc. staff makes it personal by  alerting minority businesses by e-mail and phone calls about bids and other opportunities that become available.

The total estimate of projects completed by minorities through Commerce Lexington Inc. and its partners is over $14 million.
